Our newest Smyser is here: Quinn Matthew Smyser was born in the wee hours of December 20th (11:39 pm t0 be precise) at a robust 8 lbs, 4 oz. He was 20 1/4 in. although that measuremnt is dubious because two weeks later he was 21 1/2 in. He is a month old today and the time has simultaneously dragged on a flown by. Nights are a bit rough with his feeding schedule stuck at every two hours. And Tim is generally off duty at night so that he is rested to take on the older two. We seem to be getting into a groove (the house is not a disaster, the kids are eating 3 meals a day, and Tim and I are still on speaking terms). The big kids have been great with Quinn- they either ignore him or love all over him. We're busy but loving being a family of 5.
3/16/11: continuation of post...
So, Quinn is now almost 3 months and I'm just getting around to finishing this post. Life with 3 kids. I realize now that blogging and other computer-based activities are a luxury. Our evening ritual consists of getting the kids to bed and getting in bed ourselves to try and maximize our sleep. Quinn is doing better in the sleep department but I am having a hard time convincing him that he doesn't need to eat when he wakes every 3 hours. He's pretty insistent that he is, indeed, starving, so I feed him. He's been on Zantac for reflux for about 6 weeks now and I'm finding that I don't have to hold him upright for very long after feedings any more (at one time I kept him vertical for 30 minutes after feeding). While our (my) sleep is still very much truncated by feedings, we (I) are able to get back to sleep after only a few minutes. Aside from these frequent wakings, Quinn is a perfect baby. He LOVES his swing when we're home, and the Moby wrap while we're out. He's not a fan of the carseat, although, he's getting a little less vocal about his displeasure. He's not a very cuddly guy (that makes 3 little non-cuddly Smysers) but, if he's anything like his siblings (or his father), he'll learn to love hugs and kisses (in moderation). Speaking of his siblings, the kids love Quinn. They have been awesome to him- a little testy with eachother but normal sibling stuff. Spring is on its way and we're all very happy about that. Having a baby in the winter is a whole different beast than our summer babies. On the bright side, he'll be a great age when we do all of our fun spring and summer activities. Better get this thing posted before I get distracted again and another 2 months go by ;)
